Eufaula, OK. – Marine Development Inc. (MDI), a decades-long industry leader specializing in new marina construction, expansions, restoration and repair, wave attenuators, fuel docks and more, announced today the success of a recent expansion project at Clinton Lake Marina. The project, which was intended to double useable marina space, was designed and carried out by MDI in conjunction with patio and fuel dock pergolas designed by the University of Kansas (KU) Architecture Department. The intention of the project was to create a space that invites boaters and non-boaters alike to experience the pinnacle of marina life.
The project included the construction of a new 37- by 80-foot floating patio, fuel dock and courtesy dock, as well as an expansion of the club’s slip area. The Architecture Department from KU designed the pergola-style covers that provide shade and aesthetic features to the patio and fuel dock. The patio project was incorporated into KU Professor Nils Gore’s curriculum for his students during the fall semester. The students met with the marina’s owners on a weekly basis to go over design aspects and received valuable experience, working on everything above the deck of the new patio. As part of the design, the students used the marina’s GPS coordinates to calculate the ideal 71-degree angle for the pergola slats to get maximum shade during the summer months.
The expansion was undertaken to expand the marina’s offerings and provide a more central location for visitors as part of an effort by the marina to include as much of the local community as possible, even to those without boats. The upgraded space incorporates a brand-new draft beer and seltzer bar, as well as a stage for live music. Increased foot traffic due to the remodel has already provided boosts to the marina’s rental boat and club programs, ship store and restaurant.
“Working with Marine Development Inc. was awesome,” said Peter Meiusi, Clinton Lake Marina co-owner. “Communication was always top-notch, and they went way above and beyond with this project to help ensure everything worked seamlessly. The install team even stayed for two extra weeks to work on the above-deck aspects of the new patio – we wouldn’t have finished on time without their dedication.”
“We wanted to build out the new space to double our capacity, as we were consistently maxing out our space, and to give us room to keep growing our rental and club fleet,” said Erin Meiusi, Clinton Lake Marina co-owner. “Frankly, the new space turned out better than we were even expecting! And with the patio space, the marina now has a focal point and general hangout area, giving people space to enjoy the beauty of mother nature while floating over the lake.”
