Marine Development engineers, designs, manufactures, installs, and repairs commercial marinas throughout the United States. Since 1991, the principals have put in place over 60,000 slips nationwide in lakes, reservoirs, and rivers. Having built and operated our own marinas, we understand the challenges and responsibilities of marina owners.

Maverick™ is MDI’s next-generation approach to marina construction. Instead of traditional open-angle frame construction, Maverick uses a tubular, modular dock system designed to provide strength, precision, faster installation, and greater flexibility for new marina construction.
What makes Maverick different from a traditional dock system?
The biggest difference is the way Maverick is engineered and assembled. Traditional systems typically rely on open-angle framing, extensive field welding, longer field assembly, and more custom engineering. Maverick uses tubular construction, standardized repeatable modules, minimal field welding, and a simplified installation process.
Is Maverick as strong as traditional dock construction?
Maverick is engineered specifically for strength and rigidity. Its ASTM A500 torsional tube has a 42 ksi yield strength compared with 36 ksi for A36 steel, and its tubular design provides excellent mechanical strength in bending and twisting to withstand waves and wake.
How rigid is the Maverick dock system?
Under identical FEA loading conditions, a fully loaded 20-foot Maverick dock section showed only 1/16-inch deflection at 11,570 pounds—50% less than the traditional design results cited in MDI’s testing. This rigidity helps provide a strong, stable dock structure.
Does Maverick install faster than traditional dock construction?
Yes. Maverick is designed to reduce field assembly time through modular components, standardized connections, and minimal field welding. Faster field assembly can help reduce the amount of on-site labor required and allow a marina to get to revenue sooner.
Can Maverick reduce the overall cost of a marina project?
Maverick is engineered to lower total installed project cost, not simply the cost of an individual dock component. By reducing field labor, simplifying installation, minimizing field welding, and using repeatable modular components, the system is designed to create efficiencies throughout the construction process.
Can a Maverick marina be expanded or reconfigured in the future?
Yes! And this is one of Maverick’s major advantages. Its modular design and consistent connection points allow dock sections and accessories to be configured in numerous combinations. That makes it easier to expand or reconfigure a marina as its needs change or the property grows.
How is Maverick manufactured?
Maverick incorporates precision manufacturing and robotically welded subsections. Tube laser technology provides part precision of ±.005 inch, while highly precise and repeatable welds are designed to deliver consistent, long-lasting quality from one component to the next.
Why does Maverick use tubular steel instead of traditional open-angle framing?
The tubular design provides an improved strength-to-weight ratio. The square tube profiles are thinner, lighter, and stronger than traditional open-angle profiles, allowing Maverick to combine structural performance with a more efficient modular design.
